When its pin and bushings wear, or the arm itself is bent, the Bus gets vague steering, wanders, and has play that no box adjustment will remove. On the Bay Window Bus the swing lever takes a lot of load from the heavy front end, and many original arms have worn tapers or have been damaged by forks used to pull tie rod ends. A new arm gives the tie rods and drag link fresh tapers to seat in.

Installation Notes

Confirm your Bus year and that the old lever matches before fitting; EMPI only lists 1968–1969.

Use a tie rod end puller rather than a pickle fork to avoid damaging the new tapers.

Inspect and replace the swing lever pin and bushings if your Bus needs them; they are sold separately.

Fit new lock plates and tighten all fasteners to factory specification.

Grease the linkage where it has fittings, then have the front toe checked.

We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual for your vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the JP-8282-0 fit my 1969 Bus?
Yes.
