What our decoder records at the start
The earliest cars were badged 901 internally until Peugeot objected, and only 235 were built before the numbering rolled into 1965. Our 911 decoder records the launch car as a 2.0-liter single-overhead-cam flat six making 130 horsepower, with front MacPherson struts — a first for Porsche — and all-independent suspension. The Targa arrived in 1966, a full year before the 912 got one, along with the 911S, which shared the base car’s chassis-number block and was marked only by an S suffix on the plate.
Long hood is the line the catalog draws
Our body parts split at 1973. The Dansk front hood and rear engine lid are cataloged as long-hood parts for the 911 from 1965 to 1973, as is the rear center valance, and the front fenders for 1969 to 1973. Parts that did not change with the bumpers run the whole way: rear quarter repair panels, front wheel housings and floor pan halves all carry 1965–1989 fitment, and the 930 shares several of them from 1975.

- Long hood or impact bumper: our front hood, rear engine lid and rear center valance are cataloged 1965–1973 only.
- Structural parts are far more forgiving. Quarter panels, wheel housings and floor pan halves run 1965–1989.
- Our 911 decoder covers 1964–1966 chassis numbers only. For 1967 onward, call the shop rather than guessing.
- 930 Turbo fitment overlaps from 1975. Check the listing before assuming a 911 part is the same one.

Common questions
Do long-hood 911 body panels fit a later impact-bumper car?
The front and rear ends do not. Our Dansk front hood and rear engine lid are cataloged as long-hood parts for the 911 from 1965 to 1973, while rear quarter repair panels, front wheel housings and floor pan halves carry 1965 to 1989 fitment.
Does the 912 share body panels with the 911?
Yes. Our front hood, rear center valance and floor pan halves are cataloged for the 911 and the 912 on the same part number, with the 912 side of the fitment running to 1969.
Can I decode a 1973 911 chassis number on your site?
Not yet. Our 911 decoder covers 1964 to 1966 six-digit numbers, because the 1967 onward schemes fragment across the T, L, E and S variants and our sources do not agree closely enough to publish. Call the shop and we can place a car by hand.
Do 930 Turbo parts fit a 911?
Some do. Our front wheel housings and floor pan halves carry 911 fitment from 1965 to 1989 and 930 fitment from 1975 to 1989 on the same part, but check the listing rather than assuming.
