Porsche 356 parts: find your series first

A 356 chassis number has no model-year digit in it. Porsche assigned numbers in blocks by body style, so the year comes from matching the number against production records, not from arithmetic on the digits. Start with the series, because that is what most 356 parts are catalogued against.

• Pre-A - 1948 to October 1955. Hand-formed aluminum bodies through 1950, steel after that.
• 356 A - October 1955 to September 1959. Curved one-piece windshield; the four-cam Carrera engine arrives.
• 356 B (T5) - September 1959 to 1961. Raised bumpers and headlights, wider hood handle.
• 356 B (T6) - 1962 to 1963. Twin engine-lid grilles, larger coupe rear window, fuel filler moved to the right front fender.
• 356 C - 1963 to 1965. Four-wheel disc brakes standard, and the engine range cut back to the 1600 C and 1600 SC.

That disc-brake change is the one that catches people. If your car is a C, drum hardware off a B does not carry over. Our 356 front disc conversion kit is built for link-pin front ends on the 5x205mm pattern, so establish which front end you have before ordering brakes.

Where the number is stamped

Front luggage-compartment floor near the spare tire, on the ID plate riveted to the firewall, and on 1962-65 cars under the door hinge cover. Run it through our 356 chassis decoder. It confirms exact years for 356 B Cabriolets built 1959-1963 and gives an honest series-level answer everywhere else instead of guessing one.

Repair sections for these cars are stamped for a straight car, and a car that needs them is not straight. We cut, form and weld in-house in Orange, California, and we make what does not exist.
