Weber IDF performance without the Weber price. The EMPI 44mm HPMX Dual Carburetor Kit (47-7342-0) is the bolt-on induction upgrade for your Type 3 engine, built on EMPI's IDF-pattern HPMX carburetor — same 40/44mm bore, same tuning parts, direct Weber IDF interchange for jets and accelerator components. A dual-carb setup for serious, even breathing across the engine.
Why builders pick HPMX
- Genuine EMPI 44mm HPMX carburetors — IDF-pattern casting that accepts standard Weber IDF jets, emulsion tubes, and pump parts, so tuning is easy and cheap.
- Complete bolt-on kit — includes both carburetors, matched intake manifolds, low-profile short air cleaners (needed for Type 3 deck clearance), linkage, fuel line, and hardware.
- Even fueling, crisp throttle — a dedicated venturi setup wakes up mid-range and top-end over a tired stock center-mount carb.
- Direct Weber IDF interchange — jets and tuning parts cross straight over, so you're never hunting for oddball components.
Fitment
Confirmed fit (complete bolt-on kit) for dual-port engines in:
- Squareback (Type 3) — 1966-1973
- Fastback (Type 3) — 1966-1973
- Notchback (Type 3) — 1966-1973
Built for dual-port cylinder heads. Type 3 kits ship with short air cleaners so everything clears the low engine deck. Confirm your heads are dual-port before ordering; the HPMX re-jets easily for a hotter cam or larger displacement.
