EMPI Spring Plate Cover Spacer Kit — 5mm Laser-Cut Steel (00-9586-0)
Fitting EMPI adjustable spring plates is the best way to take control of your VW's rear ride height — but the adjustable plate is thicker than the original, and the stock spring plate cover often will not sit correctly over it. The EMPI 00-9586-0 Spring Plate Cover Spacer Kit solves that. A 5mm spacer installs between the adjustable spring plate and the spring plate cover on each side, giving the added clearance the cover needs, and the kit includes the longer black oxide Allen bolts and lock washers to suit the extra thickness.
EMPI designed the spacers in CAD and has them laser-cut from 1018 steel for an exact fit, then finished in a durable black coating. Everything you need for both sides is in one box.
Compatible EMPI Adjustable Spring Plates
EMPI lists this kit as compatible with the following adjustable spring plates:
- 17-2669-0 — swing axle, 1-1/4" collar (Type 1 1960–1968)
- 17-2670-0 — swing axle, 4-1/4" collar (Type 1 1949–1959, Type 3 1962–1967)
- 17-2671-0 — swing axle, 6-1/8" collar (off-road applications)
- 17-2672-0 — IRS, 1-1/4" collar (off-road applications)
- 17-2673-0 — IRS, 4-1/4" collar (Thing 1973–1974)
- 17-2674-0 — IRS, 6-1/8" collar (Type 1 and Type 3 1968–1971)
- 18-1075-0 — IRS, 6-1/8" collar (Type 1 1972–1979)
Vehicle fitment follows the spring plate you are running. This kit is intended for cars fitted with one of the EMPI adjustable plates above, not for stock or fixed heavy duty plates.

- Follow a VW factory service manual for cover bolt torque values, and support the car securely on jack stands while you work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a spring plate cover spacer?
EMPI adjustable spring plates are thicker than the originals, so the stock cover may not fit correctly. The 5mm spacer provides the extra clearance.
Which spring plates is it compatible with?
EMPI adjustable plates 17-2669-0, 17-2670-0, 17-2671-0, 17-2672-0, 17-2673-0, 17-2674-0 and 18-1075-0.
Do I need it with stock or fixed heavy duty spring plates?
No. EMPI lists it for its adjustable spring plates only.
What's in the box?
Two 5mm spacers, eight 10 x 35mm black oxide Allen head bolts and eight 10mm black oxide lock washers — enough for both sides.
What is it made of?
Laser-cut 1018 steel with a durable black coating.
What is the difference between 00-9586-0 and 00-9585-0?
00-9586-0 is the complete kit with hardware. 00-9585-0 is the 5mm spacer on its own, without mounting hardware.
