Full Tunnel Access Bundle — Forward + Center Flush Covers | VW Type 1

Do the tunnel once. This bundle pairs both Washburn's weld-in flush access kits — the Forward Flush Tunnel Cover Kit (CH27) and the Flush-Mount Center Tunnel Access Plate Kit (CH28) — so you open up the clutch cable tube at both ends while the pan is already bare, stripped, and easy to weld on.

Most people buy one, run the car for a season, and then wish they'd cut the second opening while the carpet was out. Buying both together saves you $20 and saves you doing the job twice.

What's Included

  • Forward Flush Tunnel Cover Kit (CH27) — weld-in threaded frame, bolt-on flush cover, stainless button-head hardware
  • Flush-Mount Center Tunnel Access Plate Kit (CH28) — weld-in flush plate for the center tunnel location

Vehicle Fitment

  • Beetle (Type 1): 1949–1979, Standard & Super
  • Karmann Ghia: 1956–1974
  • Type 3: 1961–1973 (CH27)
  • The Thing: 1973–1974 (CH27)
  • Chassis: Swing-axle and IRS Type 1 pans; buggies and custom builds on a standard VW pan

Why Do Both

  • One welding session: Cut, fit, and weld both openings in the same afternoon instead of pulling the interior twice.
  • Access at both ends: Forward and center openings mean you can feed and free a clutch cable without fighting a blind tube.
  • Flush for carpet: Both covers sit level with the tunnel floor — nothing to telegraph through carpet or a flat interior.
  • Bare steel, finish your way: Paint, powder coat, seam seal, or leave raw.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need both? Not strictly — either one alone makes clutch cable service far easier. But if the pan is already apart, doing both is the cheapest time you'll ever spend on this job.
  • Does this require welding? Yes. Both kits are weld-in. You cut a matching opening and weld the frame or plate in; covers bolt on and off after that.
  • Swing-axle or IRS? Both. Any standard Type 1 pan.
  • Do they come coated? No — bare laser-cut steel so you can match your build.
