Why It Matters
Most 4x130 to 5x130 conversions stall on hardware: adapters are sold alone, and the bolts that hold them to the hub are not in the box. EMPI's distributor listing says each adapter is held by three M14x1.5 VW lug bolts, and EMPI's own replacement part for this adapter (00-9500-5) is an M14x1.5, 21mm bolt with a 17mm head, which is exactly the 70-2863-0 bolt in this kit. The wheel side gets ball-seat nuts to match Porsche-pattern wheels.
Install Notes
- Bolt each adapter to the drum/rotor with three 70-2863-0 bolts and the conversion stud; torque to the factory wheel-bolt spec.
- Fit the wheel and run the 70-2860-0 nuts on by hand, then torque in a star pattern.
- Check tire-to-fender clearance: the wheel moves out about 1 inch.
- Re-torque everything after 50 miles.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What do I need to put Fuchs wheels on a 4-lug Beetle? Four 5x130 adapters (two pairs of EMPI 00-9500-0), 12 hub bolts to hold the adapters on, and 20 wheel nuts that match the wheel seat. This kit includes all of it.
- Which side is the wheel and which is the hub? The adapter bolts to the 4x130 VW hub; the 5x130 studs face out for the wheel.
- Are the nuts right for EMPI 911 Alloy and Torque Star wheels? Yes. Those wheels use a 14mm ball seat, and the kit nuts are M14x1.5 ball seat.
- Why are there 15 hub bolts? Hub bolts come in sets of five. You need 12; three are spares.
- Will my wheels stick out? Yes, by about 1 inch per side. Check clearance before you drive.
- Are you an authorized EMPI dealer? Yes. Washburn's Metal is an authorized EMPI dealer, so this is genuine EMPI hardware shipped from our Orange, California shop.
