Why It Matters
4-lug VW drums and rotors take lug bolts, and the bolt seat must match the wheel. Factory steel wheels are ball seat; EMPI alloys are 60° cone. Mixing them is the most common wheel-fitment mistake we see, and it leaves the wheel held by a thin contact ring that can loosen. This kit is the EMPI-specified bolt for a full set of four 4x130 wheels, priced 5% under four separate packs.
Install Notes
- Start every bolt by hand.
- Tighten in a cross pattern in two or three passes.
- Torque to your vehicle's factory wheel-bolt spec and re-check after the first 50 miles.
- Spacers require longer bolts; these are standard length.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What lug bolts do EMPI 4x130 alloy wheels use? EMPI specifies 00-9712-0: M14x1.5 thread, 60° cone seat, chrome. This kit is 16 of them for four wheels.
- Will these fit factory VW steel wheels? No. Factory steel wheels use a ball seat. These are 60° cone-seat bolts for EMPI and other aftermarket alloys.
- How many lug bolts does a 4-lug Beetle need? Sixteen: four per wheel on four wheels. This kit is exactly 16.
- Do these fit a 1967 Beetle? No. The 1967 Beetle is 5x205 with M12 bolts. Use KIT20-00-9711-0. (A 1967 Karmann Ghia is 4x130 and does take these bolts.)
- Can I buy a single set of 4? Yes, EMPI 00-9712-0 is also listed as a set of 4 in our store.
- Are you an authorized EMPI dealer? Yes. Washburn's Metal is an authorized EMPI dealer, so this is genuine EMPI hardware shipped from our Orange, California shop.
