EMPI 60° Chrome Lug Bolt Kit — Set of 20, M12x1.5, for EMPI 5x205 Alloy Wheels
Short answer: This kit is 20 EMPI 00-9711-0 chrome lug bolts (four sets of five): M12x1.5 thread with a 60° cone seat, the hardware EMPI specifies for its 60° cone-seat 5x205 (wide-five) alloy wheels. Twenty bolts mount a full set of four wheels on a 1949–1967 Beetle, 1956–1966 Karmann Ghia, 1961–1965 Type 3 or a 1973–1974 Thing. It does not fit 4-lug cars, the wide-five Bus, or ball-seat wheels such as the EMPI 911-style 5x205 alloys, the Mobelwagen Vintage 190 and factory VW steel wheels.

Why It Matters
Wide-five VW drums take lug bolts, not studs, and the seat on the bolt has to match the seat machined into the wheel. Factory VW steel wheels use a rounded ball seat; most EMPI aluminum wheels use a 60° cone. The exceptions are EMPI's 911-style 5x205 alloys and the Mobelwagen Vintage 190, which are ball seat. Run a ball-seat bolt in a cone-seat wheel, or a cone-seat bolt in a ball-seat wheel, and only a thin ring of metal touches, so the bolt can loosen and the wheel can crack around the hole. This kit gives you the exact EMPI-specified bolt for every hole on a 4-wheel set of cone-seat alloys, at a 5% kit discount over buying four packs.
Install Notes
- Thread every bolt in by hand first; the threads should start without force.
- Tighten in a star pattern in two or three passes.
- Torque to your vehicle's factory wheel-bolt spec and re-check after the first 50 miles.
- Do not use these with wheel spacers; spacers need longer bolts (EMPI 70-2875-0).
Frequently Asked Questions
- What lug bolts do EMPI 5x205 alloy wheels use? For EMPI's 60° cone-seat 5x205 alloys, EMPI specifies its 00-9711-0 chrome bolts: M12x1.5 thread with a 60° cone seat. This kit is 20 of them, enough for four wheels. EMPI's 911-style 5x205 alloys are ball seat and need ball-seat bolts instead.
- Will these fit my stock VW steel wheels? No. Stock VW steel wheels use a ball seat. These are 60° cone-seat bolts for EMPI and other aftermarket alloys.
- Do these fit EMPI 911-style (Fuchs-style) 5x205 wheels or the Mobelwagen Vintage 190? No. EMPI 911-style 5x205 wheels (10-1108-0, 10-1109-0, 10-1110-0, 10-1111-0) and the Mobelwagen Vintage 190 have a ball (radius) seat. Use M12x1.5 ball-seat lug bolts on them, not this 60° kit.
- How many lug bolts do I need for a wide-five Beetle? Twenty: five per wheel on four wheels. This kit is exactly 20.
- Do these fit a 1968 or later Beetle? No. 1968 and later Beetles (and 1967 and later Karmann Ghias) use the 4x130 pattern with M14x1.5 bolts. Use the 16-bolt kit KIT16-00-9712-0.
- Can I buy them in smaller quantities? Yes, EMPI 00-9711-0 is also listed as a set of 5 in our store.
- Are you an authorized EMPI dealer? Yes. Washburn's Metal is an authorized EMPI dealer, so this is genuine EMPI hardware shipped from our Orange, California shop.
