Why It Matters
The 1971–1979 Bay Bus is lug-centric: the nuts, not the hub bore, center the wheel. That makes the nut seat critical. EMPI specifies this 60° cone-seat, small-diameter nut for all of its 5x112 wheels, turned with the tool supplied in each set. Factory Bus nuts are made for factory wheels and should not be reused on EMPI alloys.
Install Notes
- Use the supplied tool and a torque wrench; do not use an impact gun on chrome nuts.
- Tighten in a star pattern in stages.
- Ratwell's Bay Bus guide lists 94 ft-lb for the 1971+ Bus wheel nuts; confirm against your wheel maker's spec.
- Re-check torque after the first 50 miles.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What lug nuts do EMPI 5x112 Bus wheels use? EMPI lists its 00-9547-0 for all of its 5x112 wheels: M14x1.5, 60° cone seat, small diameter, chrome, sold with a tool. This kit is 20 of them.

- Why is there a tool in each set? EMPI packs a tool with each set of its small-diameter nuts for installing and removing them.
- Are you an authorized EMPI dealer? Yes. Washburn's Metal is an authorized EMPI dealer, so this is genuine EMPI hardware shipped from our Orange, California shop.
