Innova 5568 Pro Digital Timing Light
Short answer: The one tool for a points tune-up. Besides the strobe, the 5568 reads four things on its screen: RPM, timing advance, dwell and battery voltage. Set the points gap with a feeler gauge, check dwell with this, then time the engine with the same tool, without buying a separate dwell meter.
Dwell is the number that confirms your points gap is right with the engine running. Our VW Tune-Up Spec Lookup gives the dwell range for your engine code. The 5568 reads it, then reads the idle RPM and the advance you set. Its heavy-duty housing has a molded boot against fan blades, and it stores in a molded case.
Vehicle & Engine Fitment
- Air-cooled VW Type 1, 2, 3 and 4: points distributors (dwell, timing), 009, SVDA and most electronic distributors (timing, RPM).
- Porsche 356, 912, 911 and 914: conventional and electronic ignition.
- Most other gasoline engines: 2- and 4-cycle, domestic and import.
- Power: runs off the car's battery. Check the Innova manual before using it on a 6-volt car.
Key Features & Benefits
- Four digital readouts: tachometer, advance, dwell and voltage.
- Dwell built in: confirms your points gap with the engine running.
- Shockproof housing: molded boot protects against the fan blades.
- Detachable 6-foot leads: inductive pickup reaches the No. 1 wire comfortably.

Frequently Asked Questions
- 3551, 3568 or 5568? The 3551 is strobe only. The 3568 adds advance and RPM. The 5568 adds dwell and voltage and the hard case.
- Do I still need a feeler gauge? Yes. Set the points gap with a feeler gauge first, then use dwell to confirm it.
- My dwell reads out of range. Too high means the gap is too small; too low means the gap is too big. Re-gap, then check dwell again. Changing dwell moves your timing, so time it last.
Installation
Tech Note: Connect the battery leads with the engine off, then clamp the pickup on the No. 1 wire (front right cylinder). Keep the leads clear of the fan belt and the generator pulley before you start the engine.
