IRS Rear Trailing Arm Bearing Rebuild Kit — VW Beetle 1969–1979 & Karmann Ghia 1969–1974
Short answer: Everything that goes into one IRS trailing arm when you replace the wheel bearings: the German inner bearing 527539, the German outer bearing 6206, the two seals and the stub axle circlip. Pick One Side or Both Sides. It costs 5% less than buying the four parts separately.
A growl from the back of an IRS Beetle that changes with speed is usually the trailing arm bearings. Once the arm is apart you need the same handful of parts every time, and people often get home and find they're short a seal or the circlip. This kit puts the whole job in one box.
What's in the kit
| Part | What it is | Per side | Bought separately |
|---|---|---|---|
| #CH45 | German inner trailing arm bearing 527539 (replaces VW 113501283) | 1 | $11.00 |
| #CH46 | German outer trailing arm bearing 6206 (VW 113501277A) | 1 | $36.00 |
| #CH49 | Trailing arm bearing seal, inner and outer positions (VW 113 501 315) | 2 | $4.50 |
| #CH44 | Stub axle circlip | 1 | $1.50 |
| Parts total per side | $53.00 → kit $50.35 | ||

Frequently Asked Questions
- What comes in the kit? Per side: one German inner bearing 527539 (#CH45), one German outer bearing 6206 (#CH46), two seals (#CH49) and one circlip (#CH44). Both Sides doubles everything.
- Does it fit my 1972 Beetle? Yes, if it has IRS rear suspension. It fits 1969–1979 IRS Beetles and Super Beetles and 1969–1974 Karmann Ghias. It does not fit swing-axle cars.
- One side or both sides? If one side is noisy, the other is usually close behind, and the trailing arms are already apart. Most people do both.
- Does it include the brake-side gasket and seal kit? No. If you are resealing the brake side too, add the #CH50 rear axle gasket and seal kit.
- How much do I save? 5% off the same parts bought separately: $50.35 instead of $53.00 per side.
