Bilstein B6 Shock Kit for the VW Beetle & Karmann Ghia Link Pin 1950–1965: 2 Front + 2 Rear
Short answer: A stock-height VW Beetle & Karmann Ghia Link Pin (1950–1965) uses two Bilstein 24-000321 / EMPI 97-4000-0 front shocks and two Bilstein 24-181488 / EMPI 97-4006-0 rear shocks. This kit is all four, matched as a set, for 10% less than buying them one at a time.
Bilstein gas-pressure shocks resist fade, don't foam, and keep the wheels planted. They work with your factory springs and torsion bars, do not change ride height, and carry Bilstein's limited lifetime warranty.
What's in the kit
- 2 × Bilstein B6 front shock: Bilstein 24-000321 / EMPI 97-4000-0 (cross-references VW 111-413-031)
- 2 × Bilstein B6 rear shock: Bilstein 24-181488 / EMPI 97-4006-0 (cross-references VW 113-513-031)
Need only one axle? Choose Front Pair or Rear Pair above.
Exactly what it fits
- VW Beetle (Standard sedan & convertible), 1950–1965: link pin (king pin) front beam, swing axle rear
- VW Karmann Ghia, 1956–1965: link pin front, swing axle rear
Does not fit: 1966-and-later ball joint front ends (see our Ball Joint kits), Super Beetle, lowered cars with dropped spindles or narrowed beams, and off-road builds.
How to tell: Link pin front ends have two trailing arms on each side joined to the spindle by link pins with grease fittings. VW switched to ball joints for the 1966 model year.

Frequently asked questions
What shocks does a VW Beetle & Karmann Ghia Link Pin (1950–1965) use?
A stock-height VW Beetle & Karmann Ghia Link Pin (1950–1965) uses two Bilstein 24-000321 / EMPI 97-4000-0 front shocks and two Bilstein 24-181488 / EMPI 97-4006-0 rear shocks. This kit is all four, matched as a set, for 10% less than buying them one at a time.
Will these change my ride height?
No. Bilstein B6 shocks change damping, not ride height.
My car is lowered. Will these work?
Not at full drop. Lowered cars need shorter-stroke shocks. Contact us with your ride height and we'll match the right set.
Do I need to replace all four?
We recommend it. New shocks at one end and worn shocks at the other make the car handle unevenly.
Is it sold as a set?
Yes. The Complete Kit is 4 shocks. Front Pair and Rear Pair are 2 shocks each.
