Tired of chasing gear-oil drips around the back of your air-cooled VW? These billet aluminum boot flanges from Dave Folts Transmissions (DFT) replace the thin stamped-steel parts VW used from the factory with a pair of solid, CNC-machined 6061 aluminum pieces sealed with O-rings. The result is a stiffer, flatter sealing surface that helps keep the oil in the transaxle where it belongs — and a clean, machined look that belongs on a performance build.
Dave Folts is one of the best-known names in air-cooled VW transaxles, building parts for street, off-road and race boxes. We stock the DFT parts that King Performance (kingvw61.com) carries, at the same price, with fast answers from a shop that works on these cars every day.
Fitment
- Air-cooled Volkswagen transaxles — Beetle, Karmann Ghia and VW-based dune buggies and off-road cars.
- A direct upgrade for the stock stamped-steel boot flanges.
Please confirm your application before ordering. Transaxles were built in several versions over the years. Tell us your year, chassis and whether your transaxle is swing-axle or IRS, and we will confirm these are the right parts before we ship.
Features & benefits
- CNC-machined 6061 billet aluminum — far stiffer than stamped steel, so the flange does not distort as it is tightened.
- O-ring sealed — the included O-rings help prevent oil leaks at the flange.
- Stronger than stock — built for performance and off-road transaxles that work harder than a factory box.
- Made in the USA by Dave Folts Transmissions.
- Sold as a pair — two flanges with O-rings, enough for both sides.

Installation notes
- Clean both sealing faces thoroughly and inspect for nicks or old gasket material before fitting.
- Lightly lubricate the new O-rings with gear oil so they seat without rolling or pinching.
- Tighten the fasteners evenly and in stages, in a cross pattern, to the factory specification for your transaxle.
- Check the gear-oil level after installation and look for seepage after the first drive.
- If you are not comfortable working on the transaxle, have a VW specialist fit them.
Frequently asked questions
Who makes these boot flanges?
Dave Folts Transmissions (DFT), in the USA.
What comes in the box?
Two billet aluminum flanges and O-rings.
Why billet instead of the stock stamped part?
Machined 6061 aluminum stays flat and rigid when tightened, and the O-rings give a better seal, so the flanges help stop oil leaks.
Will they fit my car?
They are made for air-cooled VW transaxles. Send us your year, model and transaxle type (swing-axle or IRS) and we will confirm fit before shipping.
Are they street legal?
King Performance lists these parts for off-highway use only.
Off-highway use only (per King Performance).
