King Performance License Plate Safety Brake Light Frame (LED)
A Split Window Beetle's brake lights are tiny by modern standards, and a distracted driver behind you may not notice them until late. King Performance offers this LED brake light built into a license plate frame so you can add a bright, centered brake light without drilling the body or changing the look of the car. It bolts on behind your plate using the existing mounting holes.
Fitment
Designed for the VW Split Window Beetle, and King says it also works on other VW Beetles. The frame uses the standard US license plate hole pattern of 7 in wide by 4-3/4 in tall, so check that your plate bracket uses that spacing. King does not publish the operating voltage; if your Beetle still runs a 6-volt system, contact us before ordering.

Installation Notes
- Mount the frame behind or around your plate using the existing plate bolts.
- The light must be wired to the brake light circuit so it comes on only when you press the pedal. Use a proper crimp or solder joint and heat-shrink, and fuse the feed.
- Route the wire where it cannot rub on the engine lid, hinges or exhaust.
- After wiring, have a helper press the brake pedal and confirm the frame and both factory brake lights come on together, then choose your pattern.

Why add a brake light to the license plate on a VW?
The brake lights on a Split Window Beetle are small and set low, and they are easy for modern drivers to miss. A frame-mounted LED brake light puts extra light right in the driver's line of sight at the center of the car.
Will it fit my Beetle?
King Performance designed it for the Split Window Beetle and says it also works on other VW Beetles. The frame uses the standard 7 in wide by 4-3/4 in tall license plate mounting-hole pattern.
What do the programmable patterns do?
King lists 14 different programmable light patterns, so you can set how the brake light behaves. If you choose a flashing pattern, check your state's rules on flashing brake lights first.
Does it work on a 6-volt car?
King does not publish the operating voltage. Many early Beetles still run 6 volts, so contact us before ordering if your car has not been converted to 12 volts and we will confirm with King.
