King Performance Titanium Engine Case Nuts — M8 x 1.25, 12mm 12-Point Flanged, Black PVD (11-Pack)
The perimeter nuts that hold an air-cooled VW engine case together are some of the most visible fasteners on a clean build, and some of the first to rust, round off or go mismatched after a few rebuilds. King Performance replaces them with Grade 5 titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) flanged nuts that have a compact 12mm, 12-point head and a wear-resistant black PVD coating. They are light, they will not corrode, and they give the case seam a uniform, finished look that plain zinc hardware never will.
Vehicle Fitment
- Air-cooled VW engine cases with M8 x 1.25 case studs — Type 1-style engines as fitted to the Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Type 3, Thing, early Bus and Type 1-powered dune buggies and Baja Bugs.
- King lists these simply as engine case nuts. Because the 12-point head is smaller than a stock 13mm hex nut, check socket clearance at tight spots and confirm your studs are M8 x 1.25 before you order.
Key Features & Benefits
- Grade 5 titanium: Ti-6Al-4V aerospace alloy — strong, far lighter than steel and immune to rust.
- Hot-forged, rolled threads: rolled rather than cut threads for better fatigue life.
- 12mm 12-point head: a smaller wrenching profile than a stock hex nut, handy around the case seam and fittings.
- 16mm integral flange: a wide built-in bearing surface that spreads clamping load on the aluminum or magnesium case.
- Black PVD coating: a hard vacuum-deposited finish that helps resist galling and gives a stealth black look.

Installation Notes
- Always use anti-seize on titanium threads. King specifies it on every titanium fastener — it prevents galling on the stud.
- Clean the studs, run each nut down by hand first, and use a 12mm 12-point socket.
- Torque to the engine builder's or factory specification for your case; do not use an impact wrench on titanium hardware.
- Need more than 11? King also offers a 22-piece quantity — add two packs to your cart or contact us.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How many nuts are in a pack? Eleven M8 x 1.25 flanged nuts.
- What socket do they take? A 12mm 12-point socket.
- Do I need washers? The 16mm flange gives each nut a built-in bearing surface. Where your engine builder uses sealing washers at specific case locations, keep following that practice.
- Why titanium for case nuts? They will not rust, weigh far less than steel and keep their finish through repeated teardowns.
- Is anti-seize really necessary? Yes. Titanium can gall on steel studs; King calls for anti-seize on all titanium threads.
- Are they street legal? King sells them for off-highway use only.
