Lowered Super Beetle Suspension Kit: Topline MaXX Coil-Over Struts + Bilstein B8 Rear Shocks (Set of 4)
Short answer: To lower a 1971–1979 VW Super Beetle and keep it controlled, you need adjustable lowered front struts and shorter-stroke rear shocks. This kit is a pair of Topline MaXX coil-over struts (2"–4" adjustable drop) plus two Bilstein B8 lowered rear shocks (24-000345 / EMPI 97-4007-0), for 5% less than buying them separately.
What's in the kit
- 1 pair Topline MaXX coil-over struts: 87-0910AM (1971–1973) or 87-0910BM (1974–1979). Includes adjustable ride-height housings, shock inserts, compact 75mm springs, billet spring holders and closing nuts.
- 2 × Bilstein B8 lowered rear shock: Bilstein 24-000345 / EMPI 97-4007-0, valved for a lowered IRS rear.

- VW Super Beetle 1971–1973 (1302, flat windshield): choose the 1971–1973 option
- VW Super Beetle 1974–1979 (1303, curved windshield): choose the 1974–1979 option
Does not fit: Standard Beetles (torsion beam front) or stock-height Super Beetles. For stock height, see our Bilstein B6 Super Beetle kit.
What else you need
- Front drop: set with the MaXX struts, 2"–4" in half-inch steps.
- Rear drop: done by re-indexing or adjusting the IRS spring plates. Spring plates are not included. The B8 rears are valved for that lowered rear.
- Recommended with lowered struts: Topline brake line clamp kit (79-0210).

How much does this lower my Super Beetle?
The MaXX struts lower the front 2"–4" in half-inch steps. Rear height is set at the spring plates.
Will stock-length rear shocks work on a lowered Super Beetle?
Not well. A stock-length shock can bottom out on a lowered IRS rear. The Bilstein B8 is valved and sized for it.
Will it clear bigger wheels?
Yes. The compact 75mm coil-over spring clears 16", 17" and 18" wheels; Topline recommends ET 43–55mm for 7" wide wheels.
