Dansk Original Fuel Tank, 52 Liter — Porsche 356B & 356C (JP-1635-0)
A 356 fuel tank sits in the front trunk, directly above your feet, and it has had sixty years to rust from the inside out. Once the seams weep or the bottom pits, no amount of sealer is a real fix — and a lined tank that lets go will put sealer flakes through your carburetors. This is a new steel tank, not a repaired original, built by Dansk Original (JP Group) to the factory pattern in the correct O.E. black finish.
It arrives with the correct mounting points, filler neck and sender provisions, so it drops into the stock location and your existing straps, lines and sender location all line up. No fabrication, no adapter plates.
Vehicle Fitment
- Porsche 356B: 1962–1963
- Porsche 356C / 356SC: 1964–1965
Earlier cars — 356 pre-A (1950–55), 356A (1955–59) and 1960–61 356B — use the 50-liter tank, part JP-1634-0. The two are not interchangeable. If your car sits on the 1961/1962 boundary, check the tank in the car rather than the year on the title.
Key Features & Benefits
- New steel construction — no pitting, no seam weeps, no previous repairs to trust
- O.E. black finish — correct appearance for a restoration, no repaint required
- Correct mounts and filler neck — uses the factory location and hardware
- Sender provisions in the right place — your gauge reads correctly
- 52-liter capacity (approximately 13.7 US gallons)
What's Not Included
Fuel cap, sending unit, straps, gaskets and mounting hardware are sold separately. Most restorations reuse the originals, but this is the single most common question on a tank order — plan for it. Replace the sender gasket and any rubber filler-neck hose while the tank is out; it is a ten-minute job now and a fuel leak later.

Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and drain the old tank completely before removal.
- Transfer the sender to the new tank with a fresh gasket — do not reuse the old one.
- Inspect and replace the rubber filler hose and vent lines while access is easy.
- Fit new tank padding/strap insulation so the tank cannot chafe against the body.
- Check for leaks with a few gallons in before filling it and putting the car away.
Shipping Weight & Dimensions
- Shipping weight: approximately 21 lb
- Carton: approximately 32 x 24 x 12 in
This is an oversize, light-for-its-size box. Carriers rate it on dimensional weight, not the 21 lb on the scale, so the quoted shipping will look high relative to the weight. That is normal for a fuel tank. Contact us for a freight quote to your ZIP if the checkout rate does not look right.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does it include the fuel cap and sending unit? No. The tank is sold alone. Cap, sender, straps and hardware are separate.
- Is this a new tank or a restored original? New. It is freshly stamped and finished steel, not a cleaned-and-lined used tank.
- Will my original sender fit? Yes — the sender provisions follow the factory pattern. Use a new gasket.
- Does it need to be sealed or coated before use? No. It ships ready to install.
- I have a 1960 356B — will this fit? No. 1960–61 356B takes the 50-liter JP-1634-0. This 52-liter tank starts with the 1962 cars.
- Is there a grey-finish version? Yes, JP Group offers the 52-liter tank in grey as well. Ask us if you need the grey finish for a concours car.
