The 914's fuel tank lives in the middle of the car, tucked behind the seats and ahead of the engine, where it is out of sight and easy to ignore until it isn't. Fifty-plus years of condensation and ethanol have thinned a lot of them from the inside, and a mid-mounted tank that seeps puts fuel exactly where you don't want it. This is a new steel tank from Dansk Original (JP Group), stamped to the factory pattern and finished in O.E. black — not a cleaned-up, sealer-lined used tank.
It comes with the correct mounting points, filler neck and sender provisions, so it goes back into the stock location with the factory hardware and your gauge reads properly.

This is the late tank. Porsche changed the 914 fuel tank partway through production: 1970–1973 cars use the earlier tank (OE 914-201-010-10), which is a different part and is not what this listing covers. The 914/6 (1970–1972) also takes the early tank. If your car is a 1973 or earlier — or you are not certain which tank is in it — contact us with your chassis number before ordering and we will confirm.

What's Not Included
Fuel cap, sending unit, straps, gaskets and mounting hardware are sold separately. On a 914 the tank comes out through the engine bay — while you are in there, replace the filler hose, the vent lines and every clamp. You will not want to go back in.

Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and drain the old tank completely before removal — a full 914 tank is over 100 lb of fuel.
- Transfer the sender with a new gasket. A hardened original gasket is the usual cause of a weeping flange.
- Replace the filler hose, vent hoses and clamps — on a 914 these are notorious and access is poor once the tank is back in.
- Inspect the tank bay and surrounding sheet metal for rust while it is open; this is one of the few times you will see it.
- Fit new padding/insulation so the tank cannot chafe.
- Leak-check with a few gallons before buttoning the car up.

- Will this fit my 1972 914? No. This is the late tank for 1974–1976 cars. 1970–1973 914s and all 914/6 models use the earlier tank, OE 914-201-010-10. Contact us with your chassis number if you are unsure.
- Does it include the fuel cap and sending unit? No. The tank is sold alone. Cap, sender, straps and hardware are separate.
- Is this a new tank or a restored original? New — freshly stamped and finished steel, not a cleaned-and-lined used tank.
- Will my original sender fit? Yes, the sender provisions follow the factory pattern. Use a new gasket.
- Does it need to be sealed or coated? No. It ships ready to install. Sealing a new tank is unnecessary and can cause more problems than it solves.
- How hard is the job? Not technically difficult, but access is the problem — the tank comes out through the engine bay. Plan on a weekend and replace every hose and clamp while you are in there.
