The Claw, Oil Line Holder for Full-Flow Oil Systems (Air-Cooled VW)
A full-flow oil system is one of the best things you can do for an air-cooled VW engine, but it adds hoses, and on a Type 1 those hoses have to get past the exhaust. Let a braided or rubber oil line sag onto a header tube and it will cook, harden and eventually burn through, dumping hot oil onto the exhaust. The Claw is a simple, solid fix: a CNC-machined billet bracket that bolts to the #4 cylinder exhaust studs and clamps the full-flow hoses, holding them securely away from the exhaust tubing.
The Claw is made in the U.S.A. by Chico Performance Racing and sold through King Performance.

Installation
With the engine cold, remove the nuts from the #4 cylinder exhaust studs, fit The Claw over the studs and refit the exhaust nuts, tightening them to your normal exhaust spec. Route the full-flow oil hoses through The Claw so they are held clear of the header tubes along their whole length, then run the engine to temperature and check for leaks and that no hose touches the exhaust. Re-check the exhaust nuts after the first heat cycles, as exhaust gaskets settle. Hose sizes vary between full-flow kits; if you are not sure your lines will fit, send us your hose size before ordering.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does The Claw do?
