Shifter Slop Job Kit — Fix It, And Be Able To Reach It Next Time
The bushing is a ten-minute job if you can see the hanger. It is a two-hour job with a mirror, a flashlight and a lot of swearing if you can't.
This kit is the bushing plus a permanent flush-mount opening over the center of the tunnel to install it through. The opening pays for itself the first time you have to chase a shift rod, a clutch cable or a wire down the tunnel — which, on a project car, is not a question of if.
What's Included
- Snap-Lock Delrin Shift Bushing (CH01) — CNC-machined virgin Delrin® homopolymer, cut on-size. Snaps into the hanger with no retainer clips and no safety wire.
- Flush-Mount Center Tunnel Access Plate Kit (CH28) — weld-in threaded frame and flush cover at the center tunnel location.

Why Do Both
- You can see what you're doing: Installing a bushing blind is how people decide the bushing didn't fix it, when really it never seated.
- Check the hanger while you're in there: A distorted hanger bore will give you slop with a perfect bushing in it. You can only inspect that with the tunnel open.
- One trip under the car: Cut, weld, install, bolt the cover on, done.
- It keeps paying: Every future cable, rod or wire that runs the tunnel is now a reachable job.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I have to weld? Yes — CH28 is a weld-in plate. If you don't weld, buy the bushing on its own and look at our bolt-on tunnel plate (CH29) instead.
- Will the bushing alone fix my shifter? Usually, but not always. If the shift rod hanger bore is worn oval or the coupler is shot, the bushing can't take up that slack. Open the tunnel and look before you blame the part.
- Is there a guarantee? Yes — the same money-back guarantee on shift quality that covers the bushing on its own.
- Driving a Bus? The Bus uses a different bushing (BS02) and this kit is Beetle-specific.
