• EMPI 98-1160-0 — Oil screen kit for 1300–1600cc single-relief case (1962–1969): strainer screen, strainer plate gasket, drain plug gasket, and sealing washers
• 3x Valvoline VR1 SAE 30 — 1 quart each (3 quarts total) — High-zinc, flat-tappet-safe conventional racing oil

Why VR1 SAE 30?

Air-cooled VW engines are pushrod, flat-tappet designs that require elevated ZDDP levels for cam and lifter protection. Standard modern oils have had zinc content reduced due to emissions requirements — VR1 SAE 30 restores that protection with 2X more zinc. It's the right oil for these engines.
