VW Lug Bolts, Studs, Adapters & Spacers
Choose lug hardware by your wheel's seat and your hub's thread. Stock VW steel wheels use ball-seat (radius) lug bolts: M12x1.5 on 5x205 Beetle, Ghia and Type 3, and M14x1.5 on 4x130 cars and the 5x205 Bus. The 1971–79 Bus uses M14x1.5 studs and nuts. Most EMPI and aftermarket alloys need 60° cone-seat hardware. A ball-seat bolt in a cone-seat wheel, or the other way round, only touches the wheel on a thin ring. It can work loose, so never mix them.
Here you'll find restored German OEM ball-seat bolts (KAMAX, HWE, Bulten), EMPI chrome ball-seat and 60° bolts, Porsche-style lug nuts, King Performance titanium lug nuts, press-in and screw-in stud conversions, extra-long bolts and studs for spacers, 3" spacers, and EMPI steel adapters from 5x205 VW hubs to 5x130 Porsche wheels.
When you add a spacer or adapter, check thread engagement. Longer bolts or studs are usually required.
