Why VR1 SAE 30?

Air-cooled VW engines are pushrod, flat-tappet designs that need elevated ZDDP (zinc/phosphorus) to protect cams and lifters. Modern oils have reduced zinc content — VR1 SAE 30 delivers 2X the zinc of standard oils, restoring the protection these engines were built to run on.
