Everything you need for a complete oil change on your 1970–1979 dual-relief case 1600cc air-cooled VW engine — the correct oil screen, all sealing gaskets and washers, and three quarts of Valvoline VR1 SAE 30 high-zinc racing oil. Specifically designed for the dual-relief case introduced in 1970.
What's Included:
- EMPI 00-9924-0 — Oil screen kit for 1600cc dual-relief case (1970–1979): strainer screen, strainer plate gasket, drain plug gaskets, and sealing washers
- 3x Valvoline VR1 SAE 30 — 1 quart each (3 quarts total) — High-zinc, flat-tappet-safe conventional racing oil
Why VR1 SAE 30?
Air-cooled VW engines are pushrod, flat-tappet designs that require elevated ZDDP (zinc/phosphorus) levels to protect cams and lifters from premature wear. Modern oils have reduced zinc content due to emissions regulations — VR1 SAE 30 brings back 2X the zinc of standard oils, giving your classic VW the protection it was engineered to need.
Engine Oil Capacity: ~2.65 quarts (3 quarts included for a complete drain-and-fill with reserve)
Fits: Dual-relief case engines (1970 and later)
- VW Beetle 1970–1979 (1600cc)
- VW Super Beetle 1971–1979 (1600cc)
- VW Bus (Type 2) 1970–1971 (1600cc)
- VW Karmann Ghia 1970–1974 (1600cc)
- VW Thing 1973–1974 (1600cc)
Not compatible with pre-1970 single-relief case engines. Not recommended for vehicles with catalytic converters.
