Why It Matters
The small-end bushing is the bronze sleeve the wrist pin turns in. When it wears, the pin knocks, especially when the engine is warm, and the extra clearance speeds up wear on the pin and piston. Rebuilding rods with fresh bushings is part of a proper Type 1 rebuild.
These sets give a machine shop the correct bushings for your engine size. JP Group is a Danish parts supplier that packs engine internals from the big German makers (MAHLE, KS / Kolbenschmidt) for classic VW engines, sold in the US through EMPI.
