Why It Matters
The rear corners of a Karmann Ghia bumper wrap around the body and take the hits when the car is parked or pushed. They are also hard to straighten and rechrome without leaving ripples. Good used corners are getting scarce and expensive, and many reproductions do not follow the curve of the Ghia's rear fenders well, which leaves an uneven gap.
This Denmark-made corner from JP Group is a higher-grade option for a restoration where the bumper has to line up with the body. Buy the left corner and centre piece at the same time if you want the chrome to match across the whole bumper.
JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic Volkswagens and Porsches, sold under the JP Group, Dansk and Classic names, with EMPI as its US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each JP part with its references so you can check it against your old part before you order.
Installation Notes
- Trial-fit the corner to the centre piece and the bumper iron before final assembly.
- Use new bumper seals where the irons pass through the body.
- Tighten the corner-to-centre bolts last, after checking the gap to the fender all the way round.
- Wax the chrome and treat the inside of the corner to slow rust.
