Why It Matters
On early 911s the joints between the heat exchangers and the rest of the exhaust are where rust and leaks start. A rusted connecting pipe blows exhaust, rattles, and can let fumes into the heater air.
Stainless pipes do not rot and look right under a restored car. JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement and reproduction parts for classic Porsche and Volkswagen, and its Dansk and SSI lines cover hard-to-find Porsche exhaust and body parts. EMPI is JP Group's US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each part with its real OE and JP Group reference numbers so you can check it against your car before you order.
Installation Notes
- Compare the new pipes with your old ones before cutting or removing anything.
- Use new gaskets and clamps at each joint.
- Use anti-seize on stainless fasteners to stop galling.
- Run the engine hot and check every joint for leaks.
