EMPI Heater Cable — VW Beetle 1965–1972, Super Beetle 1971–1972
Stock replacement heater cable for 1965–72 Beetles and Karmann Ghias and 1971–72 Super Beetles. VW reference 111-711-717A.
The heater cables run the full length of the tunnel from the levers to the heat exchanger flaps. They are steel, they live in a damp tunnel, and after decades they seize or snap — usually with the flaps stuck shut, which is why so many old Beetles are reputed to have no heat. Nine times out of ten the heat exchangers are fine and the cables are the problem.
Replace both sides while the tunnel is open. Doing one and leaving the other means doing the job twice.

Earlier cars use a different length: 1956 to mid-1963 takes 98-7031-B. Call the shop at (657) 438-7002 with your chassis number if your car sits near a split year.

Installation Tips
- Heater cables run through their own tubes in the tunnel; feed the new cable from the heater lever end and lube it lightly.
- Connect each cable to its heat exchanger flap lever at the rear, then work the heater lever and confirm both flaps open and close fully.
