Installation Notes

• Disconnect the accelerator cable at the pedal before you pull the old pedal off the hinge plate.
• Drill the hinge plate's pivot hole out to take the new pivot pin (dealers quote 6.2mm). Deburr it so the pin turns freely.
• Check the cable end where it rides on the roller. If it is frayed or kinked, replace the accelerator cable now.
• With the pedal on the floor, the carburetor throttle must reach wide open without the cable stretching. Adjust at the carburetor, then check that the pedal returns to idle on its own.

• Does this fit a 1972 VW Beetle? Yes. EMPI lists it for all 1967–1979 Type 1 Beetles, including the Super Beetle, and 1972 falls in that range.
• Does it fit a 1965 Beetle? No. The kit starts at the August 1967 (1968 model year) floor pedal cluster. Earlier cars use a different pedal and hinge; see the EMPI 98-7088-B repair kit for 1958–1966.
