Short answer: JP Group JP-8750-0 (left) and JP-8751-0 (right) are the black roof gutter trims that cover the rain gutter where it runs down the windshield A-pillar on the 1980–1991 VW Vanagon. What's Included
- One A-pillar roof gutter trim for the side you select
Not Included
- Trim clips (reuse if sound, or buy new)
- Windshield seal or roof gutter repair sections
Why It Matters
The Vanagon's roof rain gutter carries water off the roof and down the A-pillars beside the windshield. The trim snaps over that gutter and gives the front corner of the van its finished look. Original trims fade grey, crack, and their clips break, so the trim lifts or goes missing — often after a windshield replacement. A missing trim lets dirt and water sit in the gutter seam, and that seam is a classic Vanagon rust spot. Fitting a new trim protects the seam, cuts wind noise from a flapping piece and makes a fresh windshield install look right.
Installation Notes
- Carefully pry off the old trim, working from one end so you do not chip the paint.
- Clean the gutter channel, remove any rust and touch up the paint before fitting the new trim.
- Check the clips; replace any that are cracked or have lost their grip.
- Press the trim into place evenly along its length. Warming it slightly on a cold day makes it easier to seat.
- If you are replacing the windshield, fit the trim after the glass and seal are in.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it fit my 1985 Vanagon Westfalia?
Yes. EMPI lists 1980–1991 Vanagons.
Left or right — how do I tell?
Left and right are as seen from the driver's seat. On a US van, left is the driver side (JP-8750-0) and right is the passenger side (JP-8751-0).
Is this the same as OE 251 853 705 / 706?
Yes. JP Group cross-references JP-8750-0 to 251 853 705 and JP-8751-0 to 251 853 706. Genuine VW versions carry the 1BG color code suffix.
Is it the roof drip rail itself?
No. It is the trim that covers the gutter on the A-pillar. Rusted gutter metal needs a weld-in repair section.
Do I get both sides?
No, it is sold each. Choose two if you need both.
What else do I need?
New trim clips if your old ones are broken.
Is it new?
Yes, new JP Group.
