What's Included / Not Included
- Included: One accelerator cable.
- Not included: Guide tube, cable bushings, throttle return spring or carburetor/FI linkage hardware.
Why It Matters
A frayed or kinked accelerator cable makes the throttle sticky or jerky, and if it snaps the Bus is stranded at idle. On Type 4 Buses the cable is long and runs the length of the van, so corrosion inside the guide tube is common. A frayed cable can also hang the throttle open, which is a real safety risk. Replacing the cable as preventive maintenance is cheap insurance on a road-trip Bus.
Installation Notes
- Note how the old cable is attached at the pedal and engine ends before removing it.
- Feed the new cable through the guide tube from the front; a little light grease on the cable helps.
- Check the guide tube and bushings for rust and damage while the cable is out.
- Set the cable so the throttle reaches full open at full pedal and returns fully to idle.
- Check that the throttle snaps back with the engine running before driving.
- We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual for your vehicle.
