JP Group Air Intake Boot, Air Box to Throttle Body — VW Beetle & Super Beetle 1975–1979 Fuel Injection (JP-8135-0)
Short answer: JP-8135-0 is the rubber air intake boot (elbow) that joins the air flow meter and air cleaner to the throttle body on the fuel-injected VW Beetle. EMPI lists it for the 1975–1979 Beetle with the AJ 1.6 L engine, which covers the US Standard Beetle (1975–1977) and Super Beetle (1975–1979). It replaces VW OE 043 129 617 A (JP ref 8115300100). Sold each.

What's Included
- One air intake boot.
Not Included
- Hose clamps
- Auxiliary air regulator hoses and crankcase breather hose
- Throttle body, air flow meter and air cleaner
Why It Matters
The 1975–1979 Beetle uses Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. The air flow meter measures every bit of air that goes into the engine, and the computer adds fuel to match. Any air that sneaks in after the flow meter is "unmetered" and makes the engine run lean. An old intake boot cracks between its ribs, splits at the clamp areas or goes hard and stops sealing. The symptoms are a high or hunting idle, hesitation off idle, stalling when warm, backfiring and poor fuel economy. A cracked boot is one of the most common vacuum leaks on an injected Beetle, and it is a quick, cheap fix once you know where to look.
Installation Notes
- With the engine off, loosen the clamps at the throttle body and at the air flow meter side.
- Note how the small breather and auxiliary air hoses connect to the boot before removing it.
- Clean both mating surfaces and fit the new boot fully onto each neck.
- Use new hose clamps if the old ones are rusted, and tighten them snugly without cutting the rubber.
- Start the engine and check for leaks by listening for hissing or spraying a little carb cleaner around the joints. A change in idle means a leak is still there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this fit my 1977 Beetle?
Yes, if it is the US fuel-injected model. EMPI lists JP-8135-0 for 1975–1979 Beetles with the AJ 1.6 L engine.
Does it fit my 1979 Super Beetle Convertible?
Yes. The 1979 convertible uses the same AJ fuel-injected engine.
Is this the same as OE 043 129 617 A?
Yes. EMPI and JP Group cross-reference JP-8135-0 to VW 043 129 617 A.
Does it fit a carbureted Beetle?
No. Carbureted engines use manifold boots, not this throttle-body boot.
What else should I check?
Check every small vacuum and breather hose and the throttle body gasket while you are in there. Old hoses crack at the same time as the boot.
Is it new?
Yes. New, supplied by JP Group of Denmark through EMPI.
