What's Included
- Ball joint dust boot kit as supplied by EMPI
Not Included
- Ball joint
- Grease
Why It Matters
The boot keeps grease in and dirt and water out of the ball joint. Once it splits, the joint dries out and wears fast, which means clunks, wandering steering and failed inspections.
A new boot costs far less than a ball joint. If the joint is still tight, change the boot now to save it.
JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic Volkswagens and Porsches. Its parts are sold under the JP Group, Dansk and Classic names, and EMPI is its US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each JP part with its VW or Porsche OE number and its JP Group reference, so you can check it against your old part, your parts book or the stamp on the original before you order. If you are not sure whether this part fits your car, send us your year, model, chassis number and engine code and we will check it for you before it ships.
Installation Notes
- Check the ball joint for play before you fit a new boot. A worn joint needs replacing.
- Pack the boot with suitable grease.
- Seat the boot and its retaining ring fully.
- Check that the boot is not twisted when the suspension moves.
Use the torque values and procedures in a factory or Bentley service manual for your car.
