  • One brake hose retaining clip

Not Included

  • Brake hose, hard line or bracket
  • Brake fluid

Why It Matters

Each flexible brake hose is held in a bracket on the body or strut by a small clip that slides into a groove on the hose end fitting. The clip stops the hose from turning or pulling out of the bracket as the suspension moves and the wheels steer. Old clips rust, lose their spring, or get bent and thrown away during a brake job. A missing or loose clip lets the hose fitting twist. That can kink or chafe the hose, loosen the joint with the hard line, and eventually cause a leak. These clips are cheap and should be replaced every time you change a brake hose.

Installation Notes

  • Fit the hose through the bracket and connect the hard line first, keeping the hose free of twists.
  • Slide the clip fully into the groove on the hose fitting until it seats against the bracket. Tap it home gently if needed.
  • Check that the hose does not touch the tire, strut or body at full lock and full suspension travel.
  • Bleed the brakes after any hose or line work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. EMPI lists the 1983–1992 Jetta.

How many do I need?
Usually one per flexible brake hose. Most cars have four hoses.
