What's Included
- One brake master cylinder
Not Included
- Fluid reservoir and reservoir grommets (reuse yours or buy new)
- Booster seal / O-ring and mounting nuts
- Brake fluid
- Brake lines
Why It Matters
The master cylinder turns pedal pressure into hydraulic pressure for all four brakes. As the internal seals wear, fluid gets past the pistons. You may notice the pedal slowly sinking toward the floor while you hold it at a stop, a soft or spongy pedal that firms up with pumping, the brake warning light coming on, fluid on the booster or below the master cylinder, or longer stopping distances. A leaking master cylinder can also strip the paint from the booster. Because this part affects every brake on the car, a failing master cylinder should be replaced right away.
Installation Notes
- Bench-bleed the new master cylinder before you install it. This makes the bleed on the car much faster.
- Use flare-nut wrenches on the brake lines to avoid rounding the fittings, and cap the lines to keep dirt out.
- Fit new reservoir grommets, and a new booster seal if your car uses one.
- Bleed all four corners with fresh DOT 4 fluid, starting with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder.
- Check pedal height and feel and the warning light before you drive. Use the factory manual for nut torque.
