JP Group Brake Shoe Adjusting Screw (Star Adjuster) | VW Bus 1949–1979 Front & Rear Drums | OE 211 609 209 (JP-8328-0)
Short answer: The JP Group JP-8328-0 is the brake shoe adjusting screw that threads into the star-wheel adjuster nut of VW Bus drum brakes. What's Included / Not Included
- Included: One adjusting screw.
- Not included: Star adjusting nut, spring clip, shoes or return springs.
Why It Matters
VW drum brakes are adjusted by turning a star nut on this screw through the hole in the backing plate. When the screw rusts solid or its slot is mangled, the brakes can't be adjusted, so the pedal gets long, the van pulls and the handbrake stops holding. Seized screws often snap when someone tries to free them. New screws with clean threads make adjustment easy again.
Installation Notes
- Clean the adjuster bore in the wheel cylinder or backing plate and the star nut threads.
- Apply a thin film of high-temperature brake grease to the threads, keeping it off the shoes and drum.
- Fit the slotted end into the brake shoe web the same way the old one came out.
- Adjust the shoes per the workshop manual until the drum just drags, then back off slightly.
- Replace adjusters on both sides of an axle at the same time.
- We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual for your vehicle.
