JP Group Cab Door B-Pillar Air Duct Cover, Black — VW Vanagon 1980–1991 (JP-8739-0)
Short answer: JP Group JP-8739-0 is the black air duct cover (vent grille) on the B-pillar behind the front cab door of the 1980–1991 VW Vanagon. It replaces VW OE 255 259 637 (JP Group ref 1189816200), lets stale cabin air exhaust out of the van, and is sold each. Most vans have one on each side.

What's Included
- One black B-pillar air duct cover
Not Included
- Rubber flap / draft excluder seal unless already fitted to the part as pictured (genuine VW and some aftermarket versions include it; compare with the photo)
- Mounting screws or clips
Why It Matters
The Vanagon pulls fresh air in at the front and lets it out through these B-pillar vents behind the cab doors. If the duct cover is cracked, missing or its flap has rotted, you get road noise and drafts in the cab, dust and water spray coming in, and cold air leaking in during winter. A blocked or missing vent also makes the doors harder to close because air in the cab has nowhere to go. The original plastic grilles turn brittle and grey with sun and age and often break when the door trim or seals are replaced. A new black cover restores proper airflow and finishes the door jamb.
Installation Notes
- Open the cab door and remove the old cover from the B-pillar; it is held by clips or small screws depending on year.
- Clean the opening and check the inner duct and any one-way flap for damage.
- Fit the new cover with the louvers facing the correct way (compare with the opposite side).
- Close the door and check that the cover does not touch the door seal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it fit my 1990 Vanagon Syncro?
Yes. EMPI lists 1980–1991 Vanagons.
Left or right — how do I tell?
EMPI lists one part number for the B-pillar. Order one per side that needs replacing.
Is this the same as OE 255 259 637?
Yes. JP Group cross-references JP-8739-0 to VW 255 259 637.
Does it include the draft excluder seal?
EMPI does not say. Compare with the photo; genuine VW 255 259 637 is often sold with the seal.
Why does my cab door slam hard?
A blocked or damaged B-pillar vent is a common cause. Air has nowhere to escape when the door closes.
Is it new?
Yes, new JP Group.
