What's Included / Not Included
- Included: one molded rubber intake hose.
- Not included: hose clamps (two clamps of about 60 mm are typical), air cleaner, carburetor.
Why It Matters
This short rubber hose is the only thing between the filtered side of the air cleaner and the carburetor. Age, engine heat and oil mist make it harden and crack. Once it splits, the engine draws dusty, unfiltered air straight past the oil bath. That wears cylinders and rings, and a big enough split also upsets the mixture and idle. A collapsed or loose hose can whistle, let the air cleaner sag on the carb, or rub against the engine tin. It is a cheap part and worth changing whenever you service the carburetor or the air cleaner.
Installation Notes
- Remove the air cleaner and lift off the old hose. Clean the carburetor throat and the air cleaner snout.
- Fit the new hose to the carburetor first, then guide the air cleaner onto it and seat its support bracket.
- Use new clamps snugged evenly. Do not over-tighten, which cuts the rubber.
- Check that the choke and throttle linkage move freely and that the hose does not touch hot metal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the JP-8164-0 fit my 1970 Bus?
Yes. A 1968–1971 Bus with the Type 1 engine and oil-bath air cleaner uses OE 211 129 615 E, and that is what this hose replaces.
Will it fit my 1976 Bus?
No. 1972 and later Buses with the Type 4 engine, and all fuel-injected Buses, use a different intake setup.
Is this the same as 211 129 615 E?
Yes. EMPI and JP Group list 211 129 615 E as the OE reference for JP-8164-0 (JP ref 8118650106).
What else do I need?
Two hose clamps of about 60 mm. Reusing old clamps often leads to air leaks.
Does it fit a Beetle?
Not a Beetle with a paper-element air box. Many Beetles with oil-bath cleaners use a different hose, so compare with your old part.
Is it new or rebuilt?
It is a new JP Group part, sold each.
