What's Included
- One 10 meter roll of chrome insert molding.
Not Included
- Window seals, clips or the molding insert tool.
Why It Matters
Deluxe VW window seals have a narrow channel around the outside face that holds a bright chrome insert. The insert dresses up the window, but it also locks the outer lip of the rubber against the glass and the body. Old inserts get dull, dent, pull out at the corners or go missing when seals are replaced. Ten meters is enough to trim several windows, so one roll will usually cover a windshield and rear window, or most of the side glass on a Bus.
JP Group is a Danish supplier that has specialised in classic Volkswagen and Porsche parts for decades, and EMPI distributes the range in the USA. Their parts are made to match the original design, so they fit without the guesswork that comes with generic replacements.
Installation Notes
- Fit the window seal and glass first. Install the molding after the glass is in.
- Use a molding insert tool (a small handle with a loop) to open the seal groove and feed the molding in as you go.
- Start and finish at the bottom center of the window so the joint is least visible.
- Cut the end square with sharp side cutters; leave the ends just touching.
- Soapy water in the groove makes the molding slide in much more easily.
- Follow the factory workshop manual (Bentley or VW) for your model. If in doubt, have a qualified mechanic fit the part.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do I need for a Beetle?
Ten meters covers the windshield and rear window with some to spare; measure your seals to be sure.
Does it fit my plain seals?
No. It only fits seals made with a trim groove (deluxe seals).
Is it real metal?
EMPI lists it as chrome molding. It is a flexible insert made to bend around window corners.
Is this the same as VW 113 853 355 F?
Yes. EMPI lists 113 853 355 F as the OE reference.
Does it fit a 1970 Beetle?
EMPI lists 1972 and later. Earlier cars used different seals; check your seal groove.
Is it new?
Yes, new JP Group molding.
