JP Group Clutch Release Bearing Guide Tube — VW Beetle, Bus, Ghia, Type 3, Thing, Vanagon & Porsche 924/944 (JP-8671-0)
Short answer: JP-8671-0 is the clutch release (throw-out) bearing guide tube, the sleeve the release bearing slides on at the front of the transaxle. It fits the late-style air-cooled VW transaxle from August 1970 on (Beetle, Bus, Ghia, Type 3, Thing) and the Vanagon. It replaces OE 113 141 181 B / 113 141 181 A / 016 141 181, JP ref 8130300100.

What's Included
- One release bearing guide tube
Not Included
- Release (throw-out) bearing and retaining clips
- Input shaft (main drive shaft) seal
- Mounting bolts / washers
Why It Matters
On the late transaxle the release bearing rides on this tube every time you press the clutch. When the tube wears a groove, gets scored, or the bearing has been run dry, the bearing hangs up, the pedal feels notchy or sticky, the clutch may not fully release, and you can hear a scraping or chirp at the pedal stroke. A rough tube also wears the new bearing quickly. Because the transaxle is already separated from the engine for a clutch job, the guide tube is cheap insurance: replace it with the release bearing, the clutch disc and the pressure plate. Behind it sits the input shaft seal, which is worth replacing at the same time if it shows any oil.
Installation Notes
- Remove the release bearing and clips, then unbolt the old tube from the transaxle nose.
- Inspect the input shaft seal behind it; replace it if wet or hard.
- Fit the new tube with the original fasteners and torque them to the figure in your workshop manual.
- Put a very light film of high-temperature grease on the tube where the bearing slides; keep grease off the clutch disc.
- Check that the release bearing slides freely along the full length before mating the engine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it fit my 1972 Bus?
Yes. 1971–1979 Bus manual transaxles use this guide tube.
Does it fit my 1968 Beetle?
No. Transaxles before August 1970 use the early clip-on bearing without a guide tube.
Is this the same as OE 113 141 181 B?
Yes. JP Group cross-references 8130300100 to 113 141 181 A/B and 016 141 181.
What else do I need?
A release bearing and clips, and usually an input shaft seal and a clutch kit.
Does it fit my Porsche 924?
EMPI lists it for 924/944, but we have not confirmed it. Compare it with your old tube before installing.
Is it new?
Yes, a new JP Group part.
