JP Group Door Handle Seal, Rear — VW Vanagon 1980–1991 (JP-8559-0)
Short answer: JP Group JP-8559-0 is the rear (larger) rubber gasket that sits between the outside cab door handle and the door skin on the 1980–1991 VW Vanagon. It stops water and scratches under the handle. It replaces VW 251 837 211; JP ref. 8187150900. Sold each — one per door.

Why It Matters
The outside door handle on a Vanagon cab door sits on two small rubber gaskets, one at each end. Over time they flatten, crack and fall apart. Water then gets behind the handle into the door, the handle rocks and the paint around it wears through to bare metal. New gaskets are cheap and are the right fix whenever the handle comes off for a lock repair or paint.
JP Group is a Danish supplier that has specialised in classic Volkswagen and Porsche parts for decades, and EMPI distributes the range in the USA. Their parts are made to match the original design, so they fit without the guesswork that comes with generic replacements.
Installation Notes
- Open the door and remove the door panel and plastic sheet to reach the handle screws.
- Remove the two screws and lift the handle off the door skin.
- Clean the paint under the handle; touch up any bare metal.
- Fit the new gasket at the rear end of the handle, refit the handle and tighten the screws evenly, just snug.
- Follow the factory workshop manual (Bentley or VW) for your model. If in doubt, have a qualified mechanic fit the part.
