Why It Matters

On the Bay Window Bus, the upper ball joints sit in eccentric bushings that are turned to set camber. Old ones rust in place or crack, so camber can't be set and the tires wear on the edges.

Replace them with new ball joints so the alignment shop can set the van correctly.

JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic Volkswagens and Porsches. Its parts are sold under the JP Group, Dansk and Classic names, and EMPI is its US distributor. Washburn's Metal in Orange, California lists each JP part with its VW or Porsche OE number and its JP Group reference, so you can check it against your old part, your parts book or the stamp on the original before you order. If you are not sure whether this part fits your car, send us your year, model, chassis number and engine code and we will check it for you before it ships.

Installation Notes

  • A special camber nut wrench makes this much easier.
  • Clean the bore in the trailing arm before fitting.
  • Fit the new bushing with the ball joint, then set camber on an alignment rack.
  • Tighten to the factory value from a service manual.

Use the torque values and procedures in a factory or Bentley service manual for your car.
