What's Included
- One ignition wire set for a four-cylinder engine.
Not Included
- Spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, plug wire seals (JP-8593-0) or coil.
Why It Matters
Plug wires carry the high voltage from the distributor cap to each spark plug. With age the insulation cracks, the ends corrode and the resistance goes up. Weak wires cause hard starting in the damp, misfires under load, rough idle and radio noise. Air-cooled engines are especially hard on wires because they run hot and the wires sit close to the tin. A fresh set is a simple tune-up item.
JP Group is a Danish supplier that has specialised in classic Volkswagen and Porsche parts for decades, and EMPI distributes the range in the USA. Their parts are made to match the original design, so they fit without the guesswork that comes with generic replacements.
Installation Notes
- Replace one wire at a time so the firing order stays correct (Type 1: 1-4-3-2).
- Push each end firmly onto the cap tower and the spark plug until it clicks.
- Fit new plug wire seals (JP-8593-0) where the caps pass through the cylinder tins.
- Route the wires away from the exhaust and the fan belt.
- Follow the factory workshop manual (Bentley or VW) for your model. If in doubt, have a qualified mechanic fit the part.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it fit my 1974 Beetle?
It is made for the Type 1 engine. EMPI's list is cut off for the Beetle, so confirm by year.
Does it fit my 1976 Bus?
1972–79 Buses with the Type 4 engine route wires differently. Check before ordering.
What is "economy"?
It is the basic replacement grade, not a silicone performance set.
Do I need new plug seals?
Yes, replace the rubber plug wire seals at the same time.
What is the firing order?
1-4-3-2 on the Type 1 engine.
Is it new?
Yes, new JP Group set.
