What's Included / Not Included
- Included: one tail pipe.
- Not included: tail pipe clamp and seal, muffler, catalytic converter.
Why It Matters
The fuel-injected Beetle tail pipe is short, so moisture collects in it and it rusts quickly. A rotten pipe gets loud, leaks exhaust under the rear apron and lets the clamp slip, so the pipe can fall off on the road. Because the 1975–1979 FI tail pipe is different from the twin pipes on earlier Beetles, it is often hard to find. This is the correct OE-pattern part.
Installation Notes
- Clean the muffler outlet stub to bright metal so the pipe slides on fully.
- Use a new tail pipe clamp and seal.
- Align the pipe so it clears the rear apron and bumper, then tighten the clamp.
- Recheck the clamp after the first few heat cycles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the JP-8199-0 fit my 1977 Super Beetle?
Yes, if it is a US fuel-injected car. EMPI lists the 1975–1979 fuel-injected Beetle 1600.
Will it fit my 1972 Beetle?
No. Carbureted Beetles use twin tail pipes on a different muffler.
Is this the same as OE 043 251 187 B?
Yes. EMPI lists 043 251 187 B as the OE reference.
Do I need one or two?
One. The fuel-injected Beetle muffler has a single outlet.
What else do I need?
A tail pipe clamp and seal. Check the muffler outlet for rust.
Is it new?
Yes. It is a new JP Group tail pipe, sold each.
