What's Included / Not Included
- Included: One right front brake backing plate.
- Not included: Wheel cylinder, brake shoes, springs, adjusters, spindle bolts or drum.
Why It Matters
Early Split Bus backing plates rust, especially around the wheel cylinder mount and the lower edge where water and brake dust collect. A plate that is rusted thin, cracked, or has worn shoe pads lets the shoes sit crooked, which gives poor braking and noise. Correct 1955–63 Split Bus parts are increasingly scarce, and the year split matters: 1964-on Buses use different plates.
Installation Notes
- Confirm your Bus is a 1955–1963 model before ordering; this is the right (passenger) side.
- Clean and lightly lube the shoe contact pads on the plate with high-temperature brake grease.
- Transfer or replace the wheel cylinder, and replace any fluid-soaked shoes.
- Tighten the plate mounting bolts to factory specification.
- Bleed and adjust the brakes, then test at low speed.
- We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual for your vehicle.
