What's Included / Not Included
- Included: one front bumper blade.
- Not included: bumper brackets, bolts, end caps, rubber impact strip or bracket seals — reuse yours or order new.
Why It Matters
The 1974–1979 Beetle front bumper is the large US-style bumper mounted on long brackets. The chrome pits, rusts from the inside and gets bent in parking bumps. A rusty, dented bumper is the first thing people see on a Beetle.
A new chrome blade transforms the front of the car and is much cheaper than re-chroming an original. Brazilian-made bumpers are a common, budget-friendly replacement; fit and finish may need small adjustments compared with German originals.
Check that your car has the 1974-on bumper mounting. Earlier cars use different blades and brackets.
Installation Notes
- Soak the bracket bolts in penetrating oil before removal; they often seize.
- Remove the old bumper with brackets attached, then separate the blade from the brackets on the bench.
- Fit new bracket seals where the brackets pass through the body to keep water out.
- Transfer or replace the end caps and impact strip, then refit and align the bumper before final tightening.
- Coat the inside of the blade with wax or rust-proofing to slow corrosion from the back.
