Why It Matters
On the 914 the front sway bar loads the body where it mounts. Decades of cornering loads, rust and in some cases track use crack the original mounting area or tear it away from the body. Signs include clunks over bumps and in turns, a sway bar that has visibly moved and cracked paint or seam sealer around the mount. When you are doing front-end rust repair, a sway bar upgrade or a chassis-stiffening job, new reinforcement plates restore the original strength at a known weak point. Fitting them is far cheaper than repairing a torn-out mount later.
Installation Notes
- This is a body repair part. Plan on cutting out damaged metal and welding the plate in, following the original spot-weld pattern.
- Locate the plate exactly where the original sat so the sway bar bracket lines up. Measure from the opposite side or use a reference car.
- Clean to bare metal, use weld-through primer and seam-seal after welding.
- Prime, paint and apply cavity wax so the new plate does not rust like the old one.
- Refit the sway bar with new bushings while you are there.
