JP Group Front Strut Bump Stop (Upper) | VW Super Beetle 1973–1979 | OE 133 412 303 A (JP-8276-0)

Short answer: The JP Group JP-8276-0 is the rubber upper bump stop that sits on the front strut shaft of the 1973–1979 VW Super Beetle (1303 / La Grande Bug). It stops the strut from bottoming out against the strut tower. It replaces VW OE 133 412 303 A (JP Group ref. 8142600200). Sold each; two are used per car.

What's Included / Not Included

  • Included: One front strut upper bump stop.
  • Not included: Strut insert, strut bearing, upper mount, dust boot or nut.

Why It Matters

The bump stop is a cheap part that does an expensive job. When it hardens, cracks or falls apart, the strut can hit metal-to-metal on big bumps and driveway dips. That means a hard clunk from the front of the car, a sharper ride and extra load on the strut insert, upper mount and the strut tower itself. On a 45-year-old Super Beetle most original stops are crumbling, and a lot of cars have been fitted with new inserts but kept the old stop. If you are replacing struts, mounts or boots, replace both bump stops at the same time.

Installation Notes

  • The bump stop slides over the strut piston rod under the upper mount. The spring must be compressed or the strut removed to fit it.
  • Use a proper strut spring compressor and follow the workshop manual for removing the strut and upper mount.
  • Fit the new stop with its narrow end toward the strut body, the same way the old one came out.
  • Replace both sides together so the front end compresses evenly.
  • Check the dust boot at the same time; a torn boot lets grit onto the strut shaft.
  • We do not publish torque values here; use the factory workshop manual for your vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the JP-8276-0 fit my 1974 Super Beetle?
Yes. It is listed for the 1973–1979 Super Beetle front strut, left or right.

Does it fit a 1971 or 1972 Super Beetle?
Not confirmed. The 1971–72 (1302) strut is different. Compare your old stop before ordering.

Is this the same as VW 133 412 303 A?
Yes. JP Group lists 133 412 303 A as the OE reference.

How many do I need?
Two, one per front strut. It is sold each.

Does it fit a regular Beetle?
No. Standard Beetles use a torsion-beam front end with no strut.

What else should I replace at the same time?
Strut inserts, upper strut mounts and dust boots are worth checking while the strut is apart.

Is it new?
Yes, it is a new JP Group part.
