What's Included
- One front wheel hub
Not Included
- Wheel bearing and circlip
- Axle nut, wheel bolts
- Brake rotor or ABS ring if your car uses a separate one
Why It Matters
Front hubs on Mk3 VWs are pressed in and out every time the wheel bearing is replaced. A hub that has been hammered, run with a failed bearing or pulled with the inner race stuck to it can be scored or bent, which causes rotor run-out, a pulsing brake pedal and early wear on the new bearing.
Fitting a new hub with the new bearing is the reliable way to do the job once. JP Group is a Danish maker of replacement parts for classic and later Volkswagens, sold in the US through EMPI. Washburn's Metal in Orange, CA lists each JP part with its VW OE number and JP reference so you can check it against your old part before you order.
Installation Notes
- A hydraulic press or a hub / bearing puller kit is needed.
- Remove the brake caliper, rotor and axle nut, then press the old hub out of the bearing.
- If the inner race stayed on the old hub, remove it before fitting a new bearing.
- Press the new hub in, supporting the bearing inner race, not the outer.
- Torque the axle nut and wheel bolts to the factory specification for your car.
